<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To miniaturize and simplify an ink cleaning mechanism of a printer using an ink ribbon. <P>SOLUTION: This printer comprises a platen 1, a carriage 2 which has a print head 3 mounted thereon and is reciprocally held, an ink ribbon 4 which covers the front face of the print head 3 and is wound according to the reciprocating movement of the print head 3, a ribbon guide 7 for maintaining a gap between the ink ribbon 4 and the platen 1 in a predetermined distance, a ribbon mask 11 formed on the face of the ribbon guide 7 opposite to the forward end section 6 of the print head 3, and a cleaning mechanism for cleaning the face of the ribbon mask 11 at the side of the platen 1. A cleaning member 14 of the cleaning mechanism is rotatably provided to the end of the platen 1. The face of the ribbon mask 11 at the side of the platen slidably contacts the cleaning member 14 with transfer of the carriage 2 so that ink debris, paper powders and the like adhered to the ribbon mask 11 are removed. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
