PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a remaining capacity display method for a battery and the like, which can display a remaining capacity of the battery with ease, and which leads a user to select a load device applicable to the battery in accordance with display contents, and to discard the battery with the battery remaining capacity as little as possible. SOLUTION: A remaining capacity display unit 6 is placed on the outside of a battery can 4 where the unit 6 is made of three layers of a sheet material, characters showing applications corresponding to the remaining capacity of the battery 100 are printed on the respective three layers from an outer layer to an inner layer in order of reduction in the battery remaining capacity, and the respective three layers can be peeled off one by one. Characters "Battery for high/middle load" is printed on the first layer of the section 6, "Battery for low load or for charging secondary battery" on the second layer, and "To specific recycling box" on the third layer. When the battery 100 is used in a specified device and is dead, the layers of the sheet material of the section 6 are peeled off one by one, to display the remaining capacity. This allows the user to select the load device applicable to the battery in accordance with the display contents and to discard the battery with the battery remaining capacity as little as possible.
