PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To produce a cyanocarboxylic acid salt having high crystalline purity by efficiently hydrolyzing a cyanocarboxylic acid ester. SOLUTION: The method for producing anα-cyanoacetic acetic acid salt represented by general formula (2) (wherein R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each hydrogen, an aliphatic hydrocarbon group, an alicyclic hydrocarbon group, an aromatic hydrocarbon group or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group substituted with an aromatic hydrocarbon group; M is an alkali metal or an alkaline earth metal; n is 1 or 2 according to an oxidation number of M) comprises dividedly adding a base to anα-cyanoacetic ester derivative represented by general formula (1) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>is an aliphatic hydrocarbon group, an alicyclic hydrocarbon group, an aromatic hydrocarbon group or an aliphatic hydrocarbon group substituted with the aromatic hydrocarbon group; R<SP>2</SP>and R<SP>3</SP>are each the same as mentioned above) and crystallizing the resultantα-cyanoacetic acetic acid salt represented by general formula (2), when hydrolyzing theα-cyanoacetic ester derivative represented by general formula (1) with the base to provide theα-cyanocarboxylic acid salt represented by general formula (2).
