PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic liquid ejection interval switching device in a liquid ejector equipped with a carriage capable of switching the interval between a liquid ejection head and a material being ejected in the carriage. SOLUTION: After the cap case 57 of an ink system 100 arranged to advance/retract into/from the moving region of the carriage 1 (in the direction shown by a sign R) is retracted from the moving region of the carriage 1, the carriage 1 is moved to a position separated sufficiently from the home position and then the cap case 57 is advanced again into the moving region of the carriage 1. Subsequently, the carriage 1 is moved in the going scanning direction XF and the PG (liquid ejection interval) is switched by oscillating a switching lever 932 projecting into the recess 16 of the carriage 1 in the oscillating direction CF at the forward end of a trigger member 573 formed integrally with the cap case 57 advanced into the moving region of the carriage 1.
