The invention relates to a method of detecting and analysing organelles, such as synaptic vesicles, which are immobilised on biochips. The invention also relates to a method of detecting a linkage between an analyte and a cell-wall constituent of an organelle. The invention is particularly suitable for: the detection of neurotoxins, such as botulinum toxins or tetanus toxin; the functional characterisation of organelles; the detection of tumour markers; or the screening of novel molecules which interact with specific cell-wall constituents of organelles.
