<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a technique for stable image display by making an induced voltage at an electrode in a high-impedance state stabler by reducing reactive power for an image display device having luminance modulating elements arrayed in matrix. <P>SOLUTION: The image display device has a plurality of luminance modulating elements and also has a plurality of parallel scanning electrodes and a plurality of parallel data electrodes. The scanning electrodes are divided into electrodes in a selected state wherein scanning pulses are applied and other electrodes in an unselected state. The number of the scanning lines in the selected state is denoted as n1 and the scanning lines in the unselected state are divided into unselected scanning lines in a high impedance state and unselected scanning lines in a low impedance state. The unselected scanning lines in the high impedance state are higher in impedance than the unselected scanning lines in the low impedance state, and the unselected scanning lines in the low impedance state are lower in impedance than the unselected scanning lines in the high impedance state; and the number of the unselected scanning lines in the low impedance state is ≥n1×2. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
