PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric resistance welder which can exactly set a welding position when welding a projection bolt etc. to a steel plate product. SOLUTION: The electric resistance welder is equipped with a base member 3 supporting the steel plate product 6 at least, a fixed electrode 9 firmly mounted on the back of the steel plate product 6 and a movable electrode 10 having a component retaining means 26. In the electric resistance welder, a portable type movable electrode unit 17 is composed by combining the movable electrode 10 with a forward/backward drive means 12. A receiving member 19 which receives an insertion 11 formed in the movable electrode unit 17 is installed and integrated with the base member 3 so that the position of welding a component 24 retained on the movable electrode 10 is set by choosing the location of the receiving member 19.
