PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical pickup that has an inexpensive position detector for an objective lens and can simply make linearity compensation for its output. SOLUTION: Two photodetectors 60 are provided on both sides of the objective lens to emit light and detect its intensity. A differential operation is made on the output of the two photodetectors in the lens displacement detector circuit 61 comprising a differential amplifier 61a.
