A percutaneously absorbable anesthetic comprising an anesthetic base, at least one member selected from the group consisting of glycyrrhizin, glycyrrhetic acid, glycyrrhetic acid derivatives such as glycyrrhetic acid 3beta-monohemisuccinate and glycyrrhetic acid 3beta-monohemiphthalate, 18beta-olean-l2-ene-3beta, 30-diol dihemiphthalate, 18beta-olean-9(11), 12-diene-3beta, 30-diol dihemiphthalate, olean-11, 13(18)-diene-3beta, 30-diol dihemiphthalate and pharmaceutically acceptable salts thereof, and a local anesthetic.
