PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a lactone compound with a high optical purity by applying asymmetric Baeyer-Villiger oxidation to a prochiral cyclic ketone at a high enantioselectivity. SOLUTION: The method for producing the optical active lactone compound comprises applying Baeyer-Villiger oxidation to a cyclic ketone compound by using an oxidizing agent selected from the group consisting of hydrogen peroxide, a urea-hydrogen peroxide adduct(UHP), and an alkyl hydroperoxide and by using a complex comprising either Pd or Pt as the center metal and a specified compound as a ligand as a catalyst.
