PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a directory processing method, directory processing device, program and storage medium capable of forming a directory capable of efficiently storing files although files can be optionally moved or copied. SOLUTION: If movement of a directory in an area A to a lower layer of "BranchDir 1" is desired, a user encloses the area A shown by a dotted line in Fig. by a cursor or the like, and clicks a selection button displayed. Then, a CPU 2 displays that "where shall I move it ?" on a screen of a display part 5 (not shown). When the user clicks "BranchDir 1" in this stage, the CPU 2 cuts out the directory in the area A, forms a directory named "HeadDir 3" in the lower layer of "BranchDir 1", and sticks the cut directory to the lower layer (area B).
