PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a halogen-free flame-retardant which shows a high flame-retardant effect, can be efficiently uniformly compounded, can be used for a thin-walled article such as a film, a foil and a fiber or even for a molded product having a thin-walled part and can be also used for a transparent product. SOLUTION: The flame-retardant comprises zinc phosphinate of formula (I) (wherein R<SP>1</SP>and R<SP>2</SP>are identical to or different from each other and are each hydrogen, a linear or branched 1-6C alkyl and/or an aryl) and/or its polymer.
