The method involves increasing the pressure in the anode region (2) to discharge medium from the anode region and reducing the pressure of the medium in the anode region to introduce the oxidation medium into the anode region. Air originating from the air supply (8) to the cathode region (3) and/or to a gas generation system is used as the oxidation medium.
