1,65,986. Exposing photo-sensitive layers. RANK XEROX Ltd. June 9, 1964 [June 24, 1963], No.23777/64. Headings G2C and G2H. Photo-sensitive layers are exposed imagewise by forming a powder image on a transparent member, positioning the member in optical contact with the reflecting surface of a transparent body except where contact is prevented by the powder image, positioning the photo-sensitive layer on the side of the transparent member remote from the transparent body and directing a collimated beam of radiation into the transparent body at such an angle that the light is internally reflected in the powder image areas only, so that the photo-sensitive layer is exposed in accordance with the non-imaged areas of the transparent member. The powder image may be formed xerographically and optionally transferred to a transparent receiving sheet before use. The photo-sensitive layer may be a xerographic or diazo layer. The transparent body may be a prism. In a modification, a further photo-sensitive sheet is positioned on a face of the prism not in contact with the powder image, so as to receive the light internally reflected from the image areas of the latter Fig. 5 (not shown). |
