[Also in Division B1] An apparatus for dispensing a measured quantity of solid particles contained in a slurry, such as resin particles used in a water purifying plant, comprises a vessel 2 divided by a strainer 4 into a measuring chamber A for the solid particles and an effluent chamber B for the liquid, the measuring chamber being provided with a slurry inlet pipe 1 and a solid particles outlet pipe 3 controlled by a valve 6 and the effluent chamber with a liquid discharge pipe 5. The slurry is fed into the measuring chamber, via the pipe 1, from a supply container in the form of a solid-liquid contacting vessel 7, the liquid in the vessel being pressurized by a pump 8. When the slurry enters the measuring chamber, the solid particles pack therein thereby forcing the liquid out through the strainer 4 into the effluent chamber B where it is drawn off via the pipe 5. A valve 20 in the bottom of the vessel is arranged to be opened simultaneously with the closing of the valve 6. The volume of the chamber A may be varied by raising or lowering the strainer. In a modification the measuring chamber may be divided into two compartments by means of a baffle 7, Fig. 2 (not shown), a feed pipe 1 being provided for each compartment. |
