PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a heat developable photosensitive material having high sensitivity, low fog and excellent image preservability and an image forming method for the same, as a heat developable photosensitive material using high silver iodide and an image forming method for the same. SOLUTION: The heat developable photosensitive material includes an image forming layer containing a non-photosensitive silver salt, a photosensitive silver halide, a binder and a reducing agent, wherein the photosensitive silver halide contains 40-100 mol% of silver iodide; an average sphere-equivalent diameter of the photosensitive silver halide is 0.3-5.0μm;≥50%, in terms of a projected area, of the photosensitive silver halide is occupied by tabular silver halide grains having an aspect ratio of 2-50 and (1) being deposited with a silver salt in an epitaxial growth manner or (2) having one or more dislocation lines; and a silver iodide complex forming agent is contained.
