PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a mold powder which can prevent interruption of mold powder in a casting mold during continuous casting and achieve uniform cooling and uniform solidification of a solidified shell of slab to improve surface quality of the slab by continuous casting. SOLUTION: In the mold powder for continuous casting of an alloy steel or a carbon steel, the mold powder molten in the mold has a viscosity of not less than 1.5 Pa s at 1,300°C and the molten mold powder does not crystalize during solidification staying in an amorphous state.
