An absorbent article capable of allowing discharged liquid to rapidly permea te and diffuse in an absorbent article, such as a disposable diaper or sanitary napkin. A plate-like rectangular absorbent core held between a surface sheet and a back sheet is formed with at least one groove extending from the plane center thereof through a point within a circle having a radius of 25 mm in a different direction until the peripheral edge of the plate-like absorbent core, and the plate-like absorbent core is divided into two or more parts.
