<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an artificial hip joint capable of improving the bone-retaining capability and the initial fixation capability. <P>SOLUTION: The artificial hip joint comprises a cup 10 engaged with a socket 50 attached to the pelvis for covering the head of a femur, a shaft body 20 projecting from the inner surface center portion of the cup 10 inserted into a through hole bored from the head of the femur to a side surface of the femur, a counter plate 30 fixed on a side surface of the femur on the opposite side from the cup 10 relative to the femur, and a bolt 40 inserted into the through hole via an engagement hole 31 formed on the counter plate 30 to be screw-engaged with a screw hole bored in the shaft body 20.
