PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an SMC which distributes a patterning material all over a molded article and excels in reproducibility of external appearance, water resistance, and chemical resistance as well. SOLUTION: In this sheet molding compound comprising an unsaturated polyester resin, a crosslinking agent, a curing agent, a shrinkage reducing agent, a filler, an internal release agent, a reinforcing agent, and a patterning material, 0.01-15 wt.% sheet molding compound is constituted of the patterning material, and the patterning material is a colored vinylon fiber having a fiber length of 0.1 mm to 3.0 mm.
