PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a printer capable of not wasting an ink ribbon mounted on a printing carriage. SOLUTION: This printer comprises a printing carriage 17 capable of bearing a ribbon cassette accommodating an ink ribbon for printing on a predetermined paper, a print head 25 which is held by the printing carriage such that the print head can be moved to a press contact position for bringing the ink ribbon into press contact with the predetermined paper, and a winding means for winding the ink ribbon.
