PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To actualize the downsizing and profile lowering of an angular position detector while securing highly accurate position detection accuracy. SOLUTION: This angular position detector is equipped with a unipolar resolver 20 and a multipolar resolver 30 built-therein so as to change their reluctance in synchronization with the rotation of a direct drive motor 10, and a changeover switch 53 for changing over supply routes of excitation signals from a transmitter 51 to the resolvers. Changing over the supply routes of the excitation signals by the changeover switch 53 prevents the resolvers 20 and 30 from being at least simultaneously excited, preventing leakage flux out of one resolver magnetically interfering with the other. This makes it possible to dispose the resolvers 20 and 30 close to each other, and makes it possible to downsize the position detector and lower its profile. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
