PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a scroll type compressor of excellent operational efficiency capable of preventing breakage of a fixed scroll/a turning scroll even when compression of the pressure higher than a standard value occurs, and ensuring stable operation. SOLUTION: The pressure in a sealed space 20 is higher than the pressure in a high-pressure side chamber 3 in some operating states, and in the super-compressed state, a turning scroll 16 and a fixed scroll 11 can be broken. To prevent this, a bypass passage 39 and a bypass valve 39a are provided to communicate an intermediate pressure chamber 37 with the high-pressure side chamber 3. When the pressure in the intermediate pressure chamber 37 is higher than the pressure in the high-pressure side chamber 3, gas flows from the intermediate pressure chamber 37 to the high-pressure side chamber 3 to prevent breakage of the turning scroll 16 and the fixed scroll 11.
