PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an engine control device capable of controlling discharged flow of a hydraulic pump during a transitional period of returning from the energy-saving operation to the normal operation to stably operate a construction machine . SOLUTION: The device comprises a cylinder number control engine equipped with an engine controlling part 10a for switching between the normal operation state in which all the cylinders are driven and the specific operation state in which some cylinders are stopped, a variable displacement-type hydraulic pump 2 powered and driven by the cylinder number control engine, a regulator 16 for controlling the delivery flow of the hydraulic pump 2, and a hydraulic pump controlling part 10b for outputting a flow reducing command to the regulator 16 for minimizing the delivery flow of the hydraulic pump 2 during the specific operation and canceling the flow reducing command with a delay when the specified operation is released.
