PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems with conventional sheet feeders, wherein, though a printer body side determines that paper is present and starts printing when the printing button of the printer body is pressed when the sheet is not fed to an intermediate carrying section, the printer body side determines that the sheet is jammed since the sheet is not fed thereto and, since a worker cannot determine why the paper was jammed, the recovery of jamming takes time or when the sheet becomes absent on a loading section and the intermediate carrying section in printing, the absence of the sheet cannot be recognized on the printer body side and the paper is jammed. SOLUTION: This sheet feeder comprises a shutter mechanism 70-2 with a paper presence/absence sensor having a shutter 71-2 selectively shielding a sheet presence/absence sensor 127 on a stencilling device 100 body side.
