SYSTEM AND METHOD FOR MONITORING PARTIAL DISCHARGE IN ELECTRICAL COMPONENTS

An improved method and apparatus for monitoring electrical components includes an integrated processing unit adapted to receive a signal from a UHF detector, analyse the signal to determine whether the received signal corresponds to a partial discharge event, and generate a simple notification signal to exterior devices. The arrangement reduces transmission of detected signals which are not due to partial discharge events, for example external interference signals. The apparatus and method has particular application to monitoring gas insulated substations.
