<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the operating feeling of an automatic opening and closing device for a vehicle. <P>SOLUTION: The closing side end part of a sliding door is provided with three ultrasonic sensors, and the detection signals of the ultrasonic sensors are amplified by an amplifier and input to an ECU. The ECU changes the amplification factor of the amplifier depending on the position and moving speed V of the sliding door. When the sliding door is placed between the fully opening position and immediately before the totally closing position, the detecting sensitivity is set to an ordinary sensitivity, and when the sliding door is placed between the totally closing position and immediately before the totally closing position, the detecting sensitivity is set to be gradually lowered as the detecting door approaches the totally closing position. Further, when the moving speed V of the sliding door reaches the stop determination speed Vs, the detecting sensitivity is raised in proportion to the increase of the moving speed, and when the moving speed V comes to the stop determination speed Vs or less, the detecting sensitivity is set to the lowest sensitivity not to detect an obstacle. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
