PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an alkali storage battery using a hydrogen storage alloy containing a rare earth element, magnesium, nickel, and aluminum as a negative electrode, with a heightened capacity and improved cycle life. SOLUTION: In the alkali storage battery provided with a positive electrode 1, a negative electrode 2 using the hydrogen storage alloy, and an alkaline electrolyte solution 3, the hydrogen storage alloy containing a rare earth element, magnesium, nickel, and aluminum, fulfilling the relations; 0.10≤d/(a+b), 0.15≤b/(a+b)≤0.19, b/c≤0.06, is used for the negative electrode, wherein, a is a composition ratio of rare earth element, b is a composition ratio of magnesium, c is a composition ratio of nickel, and d is a composition ratio of aluminum.
