PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a motor starter which appropriately starts a motor. SOLUTION: The motor starter 20 for starting a motor 10 having main winding M and starting winding S comprises a first positive temperature coefficient thermistor 22 and a triac 26. The first positive temperature coefficient thermistor has first and second electrodes, and the first electrode is electrically connected with the starting winding M. The triac 26 has first and second electrodes T1 and T2 and a gate G, and the second electrode is electrically connected with the second electrode of the first positive temperature coefficient thermistor 22 and the first electrode is electrically connected with a power source L2. Further, the motor starter 20 comprises a second positive temperature coefficient thermistor 24. The second positive temperature coefficient thermistor has first and second electrodes, and the first electrode is electrically connected with the second electrode of the first positive temperature coefficient thermistor 22 and the second electrode is electrically connected with the gate G of the triac 26.
