PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for setting parameters that relate to color reproducing characteristics of an image display device or the like. SOLUTION: The method for setting the matrix coefficients comprises a step of specifying variation quantities for specific color components, in a color image displayed on an image display means; a step of generating operands that are effective only to respective hues of red, yellow, green, cyan, blue, and magenta in a color image displayed on the image display means; a step of arithmetically generating the values of the matrix coefficients to be given to the operands based on the specified variation quantities of the specific color components; a step of converting first color data for displaying the color image displayed on the image display means to second color data to display a new color image on the image display means by carrying out matrix operation using the matrix coefficients and the operands; and a step of determining the values of the matrix coefficients by referring to the new image displayed on the image display means.
