PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce equipment cost, and to shorten a process time from inspection to shipping, by performing a visual inspection for detecting a flaw on a workpiece subjected to external diameter grinding without a process for degreasing washing and drying. SOLUTION: Oil drops of a grinding oil adhering to the workpiece W are blown off by air blow, and then washed by a rust-preventive oil 4 mixed with kerosene. The workpiece W is placed between two rotary drums 1, 1 and rotated. The rust-preventive oil 4 is supplied to the peripheries of the rotary drums 1, 1 and thereby supplied to the workpiece surface through the drums 1, 1. The rust-preventive oil 4 adhering to the workpiece surface is uniformized by a blade 2 for the workpiece, and the workpiece W is irradiated by an illumination means 6 of a light source having a low light transmittance to the rust-preventive oil 4 in this state, and reflected light is received by a linear sensor means 7, to thereby detect a flaw.
