<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing cumene which comprises passing cumyl alcohol through an alumina catalyst packing layer for dehydration into α-methylstyrene and further passing the α-methylstyrene and hydrogen through a hydrogenation catalyst packing layer to hydrogenate the α-methylstyrene and has an excellent effect of improving a cumene yield and of permitting a low-temperature reaction. <P>SOLUTION: The method for producing cumene comprises step 1 of dehydrating cumyl alcohol in the presence of alumina to obtain α-methylstyrene, step 2 of hydrogenating the α-methylstyrene obtained by the hydrogenation of cumyl alcohol and/or step 1 to obtain cumene, and step 3 of hydrogenating the α-methylstyrene obtained in step 1 in the presence of a copper-based catalyst to obtain cumene. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
