<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a stereoscopic image generating apparatus which can remarkably enhance a real time property of displaying a stereoscopic image. <P>SOLUTION: The stereoscopic image generating apparatus includes a compositing means for reading and compositing the parallactic images recorded in a recording means and corresponding to n pieces of parallactic angles, a frame buffer for writing the composited image, and an output means for outputting the composite image written in the frame buffer to an n-ocular stereoscopic image display means having a stereoscopic display element for generating n-ocular parallax from the composite image via a barrier having a predetermined shape. The parallactic image has a parallactic image number indicating the corresponding parallactic angle and coordinates for specifying the image position. The compositing means selects the color components of one pixel necessary for the composite image from the n pixels for constituting the parallactic images based on a predetermined stereoscopic image format based on the barrier shape of the stereoscopic display element, and composites the selected color components so as to coincide with the coordinates on the original parallactic image. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI |
