<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projector which allows contrast to be surely improved while having a constitution which does not require a high positioning precision. <P>SOLUTION: A projector 1 is provided with; a light source 100; a first lens array 131 which divides light emitted from the light source 100 into a plurality of partial luminous fluxes by a plurality of vertically and horizontally arranged small lenses 131A; a second lens array 132 which has a plurality of small lenses 132A corresponding to the plurality of small lenses 131A of the first lens array 131; a superposing lens 134 which superposes a plurality of partial luminous fluxes emitted from the first and second lens arrays 131 and 132, on a liquid crystal panel 170; and a projection lens 190 which projects light modulated by the liquid crystal panel 170.
