PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accomplish the manufacture of a hysteresis brake at low cost and reduction of its shaft length. SOLUTION: A hysteresis material 28 to be fixed on a shaft member 27 is formed in a disk shape. First and second yokes 23 and 24 are disposed on both sides of the hysteresis material 28 in the axial direction. A plurality of pole teeth 23a and 24a extending in the radial direction are formed on the faces of the first and second yokes 23 and 24 facing the hysteresis member 28 in the circumferential direction. The pole teeth 23a and 24a of both the yokes 23 and 24 are offset in the circumferential direction. Coil windings 29 which produce magnetic fields are disposed on the circumferential side of both the pole teeth 23a and 24a. While the hysteresis material 28 is in disk shape, the pole tooth formation faces of the yokes 23 and 24 facing thereto are flat. Therefore, the hysteresis material 28 and the yokes 23 and 24 can be formed with ease. Further, since the coil windings 29 are disposed on the circumferential side of the pole teeth 23a and 24a, the shaft length is shortened. COPYRIGHT: (C)2004,JPO&NCIPI
