PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a handcart that can climb up and down stairs, having a simple constructional means so as to enable reliable climbing, both up and down of steps by ascendable and descendable support legs, in spite of the fixed support of the wheels on a chassis. SOLUTION: A handcart (1) for climbing up and down stairs has two wheels (3) supported on a chassis (2), and has support legs configured in double arm levers. The support legs are guided along the support leg guides (7) over an ascending or descending height by the end opposed to a lower carrier end, and are connected to a crank mechanism (13) between the carrier end and a guided upper end. In order to provide an advantageous motion process, it is proposed that the crank mechanism (13) acts on a control lever (9) articulated with the support legs (5), and a control lever guide (10) extended sideways with respect to the support leg guide (7) is provided for the end of the control lever (9) opposed to the the support legs (5).
