PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a metal strip winding rubber sleeve in which no upwardly repulsive force is caused in a tip part of a metal strip to be wound, less flaws such as top marks causing a practical problem occur in the second and subsequent turns, the positioning permissible range of a tip part when starting the winding is considerably extensive compared with that of a conventional rubber sleeve, the efficiency of a metal strip winding work is enhanced, and the practical value is high. SOLUTION: In the metal strip winding rubber sleeve, an asymmetric recessed groove 2 comprising a bottom part 5 recessed from an outer circumferential surface to the axial direction of a winding shaft, a shoulder part 4 of an arc-shaped section which is formed on a forward side in the winding direction to receive a metal strip 6 first, and a shoulder part 3 of an arc-shaped section which is formed on the opposite side across the bottom part 5 is formed in the outer circumferential surface in the longitudinal direction parallel to the axis of the winding shaft. When the bottom part 5 is on the reference level, a top of the shoulder part 4 is lower than that of the shoulder part 3, and the difference in height between the shoulder part 3 and the shoulder part 4 is not less than the minimum winding thickness, and not more than the maximum winding thickness.
