A mechanism assembled of four swivel mounted levers (18, 20, 22, 24) and two springs (70, 90) is positioned at the front of the car body, using the lower part of the hinges (12) holding the bonnet as an upper holding element. When the mechanism is activated by a detonator (49) in case of an impact the bonnet is lifted against the forces of the springs (70, 90). For returning the mechanism back into its prior position the bonnet is lifted higher, causing another lever (54) to touch a stop located at a second lever (52) and resulting in the connected levers (18, 20, 22, 24) moving around their rotation axles into a stretched shape.
