PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reader in which the situation in a space for containing a film can be confirmed easily and cleaning or troubleshooting in the containing space can be facilitated. SOLUTION: The image reader is provided with a carrying section equipped with a lane for carrying a ribbon film in the longitudinal direction, an imaging section for reading the frame image of the film being carried on the carrying lane, and a take-up section for winding the film being carried from the carrying lane wherein the take-up section has an opening for inserting the film being carried from the carrying lane, and a space for containing the film inserted from the opening. The containing space is defined by an annular inner circumferential surface for guiding the film inserted from the opening by sliding on one side thereof, and a pair of opposing surfaces for closing the openings formed at the opposite ends by the inner circumferential surface.
