PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a data recording device in which data are subjected to a modulation to be strong to disturbance and a reproducing device for the same and various methods for the same, and to provide a data modulation method, strong to distortion, for the purpose of increasing the recording density of a recording medium. SOLUTION: A data converter for recording the digitally converted data onto the recording medium includes an encoder 506 for space extension which outputs the data by subjecting the digitally converted data, if inputted, to first code conversion to extend the run length by a prescribed length, a multiplexer 512 which multiplexes the data outputted from the encoder 506 and the data subjected to the prescribed second code conversion, and a converter 514 which converts the data outputted from the multiplexer 512 to a prescribed format suitable for recording on a recording medium. According to such device, the data on the recording medium due to a channel distortion can be stably reproduced and the recording which is strong in the distortion and is improved in the recording density of the recording medium can be performed as well.
