PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable high-speed data transfer processing without modifying a PIO device and an upper device including an OS by using the communication processing of UDP/IP. SOLUTION: At least one of a plurality of disk slots 13 of a storage device 1 on the upper device side is set to an empty disk slot 14, a PIO connection device 16 having an external interface 16b connectable to an external network 3 connected with the PIO device 4 and and an HDD interface 16a similar to an HDD 15 is detachably attached to the empty disk slot 14, and a controller 11 of the storage device transfers data between the upper device 2 and the PIO device 4 while executing a handling process similar to the HDD.
