PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a developer of good production efficiency capable of highly dispersing coloring matter in the developer up to the primary particle level of its dispersibility, obtaining the developer having a uniform particulate shape and a narrow grain size distribution and continuously performing production without opening and closing a reaction vessel. SOLUTION: The method for manufacturing the developer comprises dissolving a binder resin component in a supercritical fluid or subcritical fluid, mixing the solution with a coloring matter component, lowering the solubility of the binder resin component in the supercritical fluid or the subcritical fluid and depositing the binder resin component to a particulate form while dispersing the coloring matter component into the binder resin component, in which at least the developer material and the supercritical fluid or the subcritical fluid are injected under high pressure into the reaction vessel when shifting again to a developer manufacturing process after the pressure in the reaction vessel decompresses from A (MPa) to B (MPa) (where A>B>the critical pressure) after the manufacture of the developer.
