PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a compound capable of effectively recognizing a mismatch at least in cytosine-cytosine, to provide a method for detecting the mismatch using the compound, to provide a kit for use in the method, and to provide a method for detecting abnormality(ies) in a base sequence. SOLUTION: The compound is represented by formula(I)( wherein, X is N or CH; R<SB>1</SB>, R<SB>2</SB>and R<SB>3</SB>are each H or a 1-10C alkyl; R<SB>4</SB>and R<SB>5</SB>are each H or a 1-5C alkyl; wherein for each of the alkyl groups, the carbon atom(s) may be substituted with nitrogen atom(s), sulfur atom(s) or oxygen atom(s) or may have amino or carboxy group(s) ). This compound can form a pseudobase pair if there is a mismatch in at least cytosine-cytosine, therefore enabling the mismatch to be detected by detecting or assaying the formation of the pseudobase pair.
