A separator for separating smaller pieces from a mixture of timbering debri s includes a row of side by side parallel tabular shafts each having a series of spaced apart discs mounted thereto each disc formed with rounded protrusions about its perimete r. Solid shafts within the tubular shafts are drivingly interconnected to all rotate in the sane direction and are fixed to the tubular shafts to also be rotated in some way. The debris is deposited atop the shafts and discs and conveyed ahead by the rotation of the discs with the smaller pieces falling between the spaces between the discs and shafts to be separated from the larger piec es which are conveyed out of the separator apparatus.
