<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain water pigment dispersion for producing water-based ink for ink-jet recording, which is printed in high quality on plain paper and has excellent water resistance, scratch resistance and marker resistance and to provide a method for producing the water pigment dispersion. <P>SOLUTION: The water pigment dispersion comprises pigment, a styrene-acrylic acid-based resin having ≤11,000 weight-average molecular weight and a styrene acrylic acid-based resin having ≥15,000 weight-average molecular weight is used.
