PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a modifying agent for a lithographic printing forme realizing that: the agent stably shows the erasing function for a long time; deformation or damages of the container storing the agent or leaking of the content from the container is prevented; only a desired image part can be erased and the image part can be rapidly erased independently of the kind of the lithographic printing forme without giving an adverse influences on the nearby necessary image part; no contamination is induced in the erased part; and the agent shows high safeness regarding the health of an operator. SOLUTION: The modifying agent for a lithographic printing forme contains a carbonic acid ester and a basic compound, and further contains a specified sulfoxide compound.
