PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance use efficiency of an illumination light in a stereoscopic image display device for separating image lights for the left eye and the right eye by restricting the path of the illumination light irradiated to a liquid crystal display (10) for displaying images for the left eye and the right eye through a barrier displayed on another liquid crystal panel (21). SOLUTION: A cholesteric film (23) and a 1/4 wavelength phase difference plate (24) are disposed between an illuminator (30) irradiating the illumination light and a liquid crystal panel (21) for barrier display. The non-polarized illumination light irradiated from the illuminator (30) is separated into a transmissive circularly polarized light and a reflective circularly polarized light by means of the cholesteric film (23). The reflected circularly polarized light is reflected by the illuminator (30) to become a circularly polarized light with an inverse rotation direction and transmits through the cholesteric film (23). The circularly polarized light transmitted through the cholesteric film (23) transmits through the 1/4 wavelength phase difference plate (24) to become a linearly polarized light and enters onto the liquid crystal panel (21).
