PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal display device capable of compensating the gamma characteristic of a liquid crystal changing dependently on temperature. SOLUTION: In the image display device which displays an image by impressing digitized image signals on a display means 4 on which a plurality of pixels are arranged in a matrix form, one field of the image signal is constituted of a plurality of subfields in order to suppress the occurrence of moving image false contour and the subfields are selectively displayed on or off according to the order of array to display the image based on the image signal. The image display device is provided with a temperature detecting section 30 for detecting the temperature of the display means, and a pulse voltage value control section 28 for controlling the pulse voltage value of the pulse signal so as to compensate the change of the gamma characteristic of the display means in accordance with the detection value of the temperature detecting section.
