PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photochromic display element that is simple in configuration of a display medium, is an energy-saving type, and can be freely modified by an internal light-emitting pattern, without using a pattern mask in display. SOLUTION: The photochromic display element regards light which an electroluminescent device emits as excitation light and has memory properties. In a specific configuration, a transparent substrate, having a transparent electrode providing a photochromic layer on one-side face, has a light-emitting layer containing a luminous substance between the substrates, each having the two electrodes being set as at least one of the substrates.
