PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a paint-improving material that can interrupt the adsorption and diffusion of harmful substances, when a paint including the improving substance is applied to new kinds of building materials or boards on which harmful substances, e.g., formaldehyde or the like still remain, and can prevent the occurrence of sick house syndrome and to provide a method for producing the improving material and the paint improved by adding the improving material. SOLUTION: Inorganic substances, e.g., stones or ceramics are calcinated in an oxidative atmosphere and pulverized into particles with a particle size of≤50μm. In the mean time, natural organic substance, e.g., bamboo, wood or garbage is dry-distilled to obtain a carbon-containing residue. Then, the pyroligneous acid generated by the dry distillation is added to the carbon-containing residue in an amount of 1 wt.% and the mixture is kneaded to form the dry-distilled substance and the dry-distilled substance is admixed to the inorganic powder in an amount of 1-5 wt.% to produce the paint-improving material.
